Playtime with Your Cat or Kitten
Playtime is a necessary requirement for cats of all ages.
Kittens need playtime to allow them to develop their hunting and stalking skills, as well as get rid of some excess energy.
Adult cats need to play to keep their muscles supple and their reflexes sharp.
Cats can go through a mid-life crisis if they get bored; mental and physical stimulation are necessary to keep them happy and healthy.
Playtime can provide them with all necessary aspects of stimulation.
Playtime can range from specially purchased toys designed specifically for your cat, or can simply be a wadded up piece of paper or foil for them to chase. Strings, balls and feathers are fun toys as well.
Katy loves playing in a paper bag with her catnip fur mouse. The occasional "Red Dot" (from a laser pointer - note: be careful not to get the laser light in your cat's eyes - this could seriously harm their vision) allows her to give chase and sharpens her stalking skills.
Here is a cute video of a kitten playing with her person - this is sooooo adorable!
A bored cat, to put it simply,
will get into trouble if not given an outlet for their boredom. (You
may have tipped over houseplants, shredded curtains or yarn all over
the house if left to his or her own defenses.) Yes! Playtime is THAT
important for a healthy, happy cat.
