Kitten Health

Kittens are born deaf and blind, and are totally dependent on their mothers for the first few weeks of life. Kittens spend most of their time sleeping, only waking to eat and curling into balls with littermates and mom (to stay warm.)

Around ten days, the kittens will open their eyes. At two weeks of age, they will begin play-fight with littermates to improve coordination and strength, and will begin to explore their surroundings.

They learn to wash themselves, and engage in play hunting and stalking.

Around three-four weeks of age, they begin eating solid foods, and are usually completely weaned by eight weeks of age.

Your kitten should have its first vaccination around eight weeks of age.

Your kitten can be neutered or spayed by six months, or earlier if the kitten weighs at least 2 lbs. (1 kg).
